This year’s countywide footway micro-asphalt programme includes only a tiny amount of work in Grantham – but that’s because we’ve already seen significant investment over recent years, and more is still to come.
✅ In 2020/21, we delivered £125,000 worth of full footway reconstructions across the town.
✅ In 2022/23, another £150,000 was spent on micro-asphalting, covering more than 25 footways – including Longcliffe Road, Sandon Road, and Redcliffe Road.
✅ In 2023/24, we delivered a significant scheme on Dysart Road, including footway and road reconstruction, as part of a larger transport improvement project.
✅ This year (2024/25) sees a further £535,000 investment in micro-asphalt works on roads such as Hornsby Road, Trent Road, Hill Avenue and many more.
✅ And we’re not done – in 2025/26, we’ve already lined up £30,000 of further micro-asphalt works for Grantham.
It’s also important to say that micro-asphalt is just one of our treatments. It’s excellent for keeping structurally sound footways in good condition, but where more serious damage exists – like root upheaval or cracking – we look to full reconstruction. We assess all sites against a countywide scoring system focused on condition, safety, and community needs.
Across Lincolnshire, we use a consistent countywide scoring system to assess the condition of our footway network. Every stretch is reviewed based on various factors – including surface condition, safety defects, usage levels, amenities like schools or shops, and the number of public enquiries or claims. These scores help us prioritise which sites need treatment the most, whether preventative maintenance like micro-asphalt or complete reconstruction. It’s about ensuring investment goes where it’s needed most, ensuring fairness and best value across all our communities – including here in Grantham.
Several Grantham roads, including St Catherine’s Road, Harlaxton Road, Princess Drive, and Denton Avenue, are already highly ranked for future reconstruction.
With over 2,500 miles of footway to maintain across Lincolnshire—and 77 miles being treated this year alone—I’ll continue working to ensure Grantham gets its fair share of investment, both now and in the years to come.
