Four companies have been selected to bid for the contract to build Lincoln’s Eastern Bypass with smaller companies sought to undertake subcontracted works.

Following a competitive process which included companies from the UK and abroad bidding to be included on the tender list, four were selected to officially tender for the two year project valued at £96m.

Those short listed include Hochtief UK and Carillion Construction; two joint ventures have also been short-listed, the first of which is John Sisk and Lagan, and the second John Graham and Graham Farrans.

Executive member for highways and transport, Cllr Richard Davies, said: “The construction phase of the eastern bypass will provide a fantastic boost the local economy as it creates work for local construction and land-work companies. Each of the four companies shortlisted for the two–year contract will now be looking at the finer detail in their submissions which will include the need to subcontract some of this work out to smaller companies. I would urge any local company interested in this work to put their hand in as soon as possible by contacting the four companies direct.”

The 7.5km bypass will link the A158 Wragby Road roundabout to the A15 at Bracebridge Heath. It is hoped that work can start in autumn 2016.
