Lincolnshire County Council is reaffirming its commitment to improving education for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) through a new capital investment phase. This includes an exciting development in Grantham, where the Grantham Additional Needs Fellowship is set to expand by 96 new places.

The expansion will be achieved by incorporating the former West Grantham Upper School into the Ambergate Campus, which will be fully refurbished to create a modern and suitable learning environment for students with SEND.

What’s Planned?

  • Classroom Development: Eight new classrooms, breakout areas, and essential ancillary spaces will be added to ensure students have the support they need.
  • Site Upgrades: External areas will be improved, including expanded parking facilities, better access for home-to-school transport, and enhanced outdoor areas designed for students.
  • Partnership with Community Inclusive Trust: As we work on the early stages of the design, we’re collaborating closely with the Community Inclusive Trust, which oversees the Grantham Additional Needs Fellowship. This ensures that the school’s future facilities are designed with students’ needs at the forefront.

Looking Ahead: Construction will begin in late summer/early autumn 2025, but we’re in the early feasibility and design stages. We’ll be engaging with local communities and stakeholders as the project progresses, and we’ll keep everyone updated on developments.

This project represents an investment of approximately £9 million here in Grantham, and is part of our unwavering commitment to ensuring that every child in Lincolnshire can access a high-quality education close to home.

“As a proud representative of our community, I’m thrilled to see this investment in Grantham’s special needs education. The expansion of the Grantham Additional Needs Fellowship will provide vital support for our children, ensuring they have access to the best facilities and learning environments. This project not only benefits the students but also strengthens our local community, making sure that every child has the opportunity to thrive right here in Lincolnshire. I look forward to seeing this development come to life.” Cllr Richard Davies
